Best Toys For 18 Month Old Kids

18 month old children are really at a very unique age. They are still babies in many senses of the word but they are also beginning to exhibit some very independent behavior. By this age there are certain things you can use as a base to see that a child is developing normally, or identify when they may not be and seek professional advice.

What they can and can't do with simple toys and objects is a great indicator for parents and care givers. We may not have a handbook on parenting but there are a solid set of measures used to see your 18 month old has normal development.

Types of Development

Children develop in a few ways as they grow. Here are the major areas:

* Social Skills- how they might act socially and interact with people around them. This can be family, friends, other children, child care providers, and strangers. How they understand and respond to the emotions of others is another important social skill.

* Gross Motor Skills- Take in the major muscle groups that are used to walk, run, sit, stand etc. All of these things they will learn by the age of 18 months. There's also keeping balance, climbing and moving from one position to another.

* Fine Motor Skills - These include the smaller movement and many hand-eye coordination activities. Using the hands to eat, writing, drawing, get dressed, catch a ball etc.

* Cognitive Skills - This encompasses the brain activities of thinking, memory, problem solving, and reasoning (if you leave the room you are still there and will be back, for example). You could say that all developmental skills rely on the cognitive.

* Language Skills - This area includes not only speech but the body language and gestures in communication with others. It is clear that babies understand a lot more than they can speak to us about and they have many ways of letting us know there needs without speech.

What Should An 18 Month Old Be Capable Of?

Remember that all children can learn differently and thrive in some areas. But there are some ways to ascertain what is known as a normal development for an 18 month old. Once you can understand each of the developmental skill categories and where the average 18 month old should be, then you begin to see clearly which toys are going to be the best for them to learn with.

Toys designed to fulfill their learning needs will keep them satisfied, and advancing normally in their learning journey. The following is a guide and not by any means an exhaustive list, nor meant as professional advice. The list will help you to buy the right toy for this age group.

Here are a few that come to mind:

* Large blocks

Scavenger Hunt Riddles For Kids

Scavenger Hunt Riddles For Kids

Scavenger Hunt

Children tend to get bored easily so clues and riddles for your Party need to be easy. Look around your house and examine your most common possessions or household items. Think how you can make funny quips or jokes about these ordinary stuff that are in your home. Here's an example of a one liner: "What did one potato chip say to another potato chip? Answer: Let's go for a dip. Or, can giraffes have babies? Answer: no, they only have giraffes". These funny witticisms may seem corny to older kids but for young children this will certainly send laughs all around. A question and answer clue is also easier to make than the usual riddle. This style is also easy for inexperienced clue makers or for novices who are about to host their first ever scavenger hunt. If you are still having a hard time making a question and answer type of riddle, try doing it backward. Think of an item and make a funny joke about it or just say something about it. Example: "I am smooth and sweet and fun to put in your cocoa drink" Answer: Marshmallows. It is important to note that your clues and riddles need to be appropriate for your kid's age group. As kids get older more difficult and crafty clues might be needed to stimulate the players and make the game more exciting.

Another good idea might be to host a photo scavenger hunt for kids. But unlike most photo scavenger hunt, make the game more challenging by taking a close-up photo of the items to make the hunt more tricky and entertaining. You can add clues or a general location of the certain thing in the photo and Watch them hunt around matching the pattern of your photos. For pre school children who can't read yet, drawings or photos of toys and other knickknacks would be suitable for them

Most scavenger hunts end with having to award a prize to the winner who found the most items. So it might also be a good idea to make some of the clues harder to solve to make sure that the kids won't end up with the same number of items.

Making clues and riddles for scavenger hunt parties will get easier as time goes by. It may seem daunting at first but with practice and experience the task won't seem as overwhelming as it once did. Imagination and patience will always help. And practice may not always make perfect but it will take you as close to it!

About Teddy Bear Teacup and Toy Poodles, Q and A: Are Poodles Good With Kids and Retired People?

Teddy Bear Teacup

1. Is your breed good with kids and reTired people? Poodles are the #1 most popular family dog. With Teddy Bear Poodles quickly becoming the most popular. Most people think they don't look like Poodles at all. I have been breeding for over 30 yrs and I have heard more than once, usually from the man in the family, we are not getting a Poodle. Maybe it is because of the stigma that goes along with the weird hAir doo for show Poodles or if it's just the name I don't know. But the miniature and Standard Poodles are one of the toughest dog you will ever own. With the toy poodle being the ultimate lap dog. If the Toy Poodle has not grown up around little children they might be sensitive to the Fast moveMents or rough play of children, I recomMend that you socialize your Toy Poodle from young puppies to enjoy children and not fear them. Let me tell you once you have owned a poodle you will never change breeds.

Now you can have the most intelligence, non-shedding, friendly, protective, loyal, easiest dog to train. Poodles can look like little teddy bears or in a more traditional cut will look more like a Poodle in the show ring.

Many breeds have well-known behavior issues. Notorious or inherited genetic disposition's that can turn into destructive behavior which at least are annoying and may go as far as having to hire a professional behavior specialist for help. I have heard people say, is my dog ever going to grow up and out grow these bad habits? Poodles do not have any notorious/genetic bad habits. Some people refer to Poodles as having an old soul. They are wise and have good common sense from the start. Eight week old puppies are easily taught things because they want to please their owners. I often use the term people pleaser to describe my Poodles. Your Poodle will worship the ground you walk on.

I have found male Poodles are preferred over females when it comes to families. Male Poodles seem to like everyone in the family equally. Sometimes females will choose one person as their favorite to lavish their love on. Females can also fight with other females where males seem to get along with everyone.

Teddy bear poodles can look like puppies forever. The Teddy Bear is a special clip that you can request from your groomer. There are many different hAir styles that you can put on a poodle because of the type of hair they have.

You can't go wrong with the Poodle, if you are an inexperienced dog owner or have a busy life style with children the Poodle will be the perfect choice for you.

2. What is special about your breed? Poodles are the most intelligence, non-shedding, friendly, protective, loyal, easiest dog to train. Poodles can look like little teddy bears or in a more traditional cut will look more like a poodle in the show ring.

Eight week old puppies are easily taught things because they want to please their owners, and are intelligent enough to focus on their owners and what they are saying. I have 6 week old puppies that Watch and listen to everything I do often turning their head intently listening and learning, they are amazing. The miniature and Standard Poodles are one of the toughest dog you will ever own. With the toy poodle being the ultimate lap dog. Let me tell you once you have owned a poodle you will never change breeds.

3. What Dog Group does the poodle fall in? Teacup and Toy Poodles are in the toy group. Miniature and standard Poodles are in the Non-sporting group.

4. What do you breed? I breed Teacup Poodle, Toy Poodle and Teddy Bear Teacup and Toy Poodles.

5. How much exercise does your breed need daily? Depending on the size and temperament of your dog, Poodles, as do all breeds need outdoor exercise, if for nothing else to mentally stimulate them. One to two 15 minutes walks for the smaller ones and up long distance bike rides for the larger ones, and anything in between.

6. Does your breed shed? No.

7. Do you train your puppies or dogs, any suggestions for buyers? My puppies are all house broken using a Potty Park before they leave. Each sTAGe of their life from birth is impressionable. I try to do everything for my puppies, so they will be adjusted. They are taught not to bark for attention, to lie calmly in your arms when you hold them. They go for short car rides, they are used to going outside, inside and walking on different textures. They are surrounded by all the normal household noises. And most importantly the weaning process is done slowly to ensure they don't grow up with separation anxiety issues. With great calm temperaments, correct confirmation, with beautiful thick curly coats and a gorgeous look. I do genetic health testing on my adult dogs to ensure they don't carry genetic diseases.

Buying a puppy over the Internet can be a scary thing to do. But from my point of view it is just as scary selling to someone I have never met or seen. I have sold my puppies to many celebrities that have come to my home to pick up their new puppies. I have many testimonials on my face book page, Little Poodle, and on my website. I don't think you could find a better bred, better raised puppy.

21. Tell us about your area where you pets are raised? My puppies are born next to my bed and many of them right in my hand. I consider my dogs my kids and they live with me like family, since I don't have any human kids. They are loved, cuddled, and allowed to play in the great outdoor every day.

Christmas Toys Kids

With Christmas not so far away, you are probably seeing more advertiseMents on TV for the latest gadget or toy or maybe the kids are dropping subtle or not too subtle suggestions about what they would like for Christmas. Well why not get the jump on them and learn about all the toys that are predicted to be hot this year 2010. This article will give you a few ideas of the top Christmas toys so that you can have a meaningful conversation (or at least understand what they are talking about) when your kids start to Mention Zoobles or Lalaloopsy Dolls and things like that.

Christmas Toys Kids Will Be Wanting This Year - Popular Girls Toys 2010

To begin with, each year there are always those odd little toys that nobody quite knows what they are, what they do or why they are so popular. This year it will probably be the aforeMentioned Zoobles or Squinkies that fit this description.

Both these toys are little creatures or figures that kids can play with. There are many different characters and various accessories to go with the characters. These accessories include homes, extra gear like cars or forms of transport.

In effect, Zoobles and Squinkies are the characters but the charm to children is that they have a little imaginary world. Kids love to shape this imaginary world and have the Zoobles or Squinkies characters interact with each other.

Other toys that are said to be hot this year include Lalaloopsy Dolls and even Princess and Me dolls.

Lalaloopsy dolls are a modern take on the raggedy doll that might have been hand made using bits and pieces left over from the sewing basket. The Lalaloopsy dolls are not made from old left over rags but they hint that they have. There are 8 different characters and each has certain traits and personalities that reflect the type of left over material that they are made from.

So the Starlight Dot doll is made from an old astronauts suit. And she is a stargazer and has an interest in science. Each doll also has a pet which also reflects her personality (you could almost say the pet is a bit like an avatar). For Starlight Dot it is a red bird.

Princess & Me dolls are based on the Disney Princesses that have proved to be really popular with girls. These dolls are extremely well crafted and of course each have distinct personalities. You can get Jasmine from Arabian Nights, Cinderella or Ariel the Mermaid to name a few.

There are plenty of other hot Christmas toys but these are a few to get you started. The dolls are more of a girls toy or even a collectible item for grown ups. The Zoobles and Squinkies are for younger children and both boys and girls will like to play with them.

Outdoor Toy Box Shed Organizing - Tips & Ideas to Help You Organize Your Sheds Used For Storing Toys

Outdoor Toy Box Shed Organizing - Tips & Ideas to Help You Organize Your Sheds Used For Storing Toys

Storing Toys

Whether your kids are young or already entering their teenage years, you know full well just how much "stuff" can accumulate outside in the yard. Using a storage shed as an outdoor toy box though, is a wonderful way to help keep your yard clean and clutter free, and it also teaches the children from young ages to pick up after themselves.

Using your outdoor storage shed as a toybox is not overly difficult either, but you will want to organize it a bit so you can make the most of the room you have, and so the kids will know where their outdoor toys properly go.

Now the first thing you'll want to do when organizing your toy shed, is to designate various zones inside. One zone for instance, should be reserved for Bicycles and riding toys. This area should have things "parked" in a logical manner, so it will be easier for the kids to get their toys out when they want them, but put them away when they're done too. Be sure not to pile things on or around the wheeled toys, otherwise someone could get hurt when trying to navigate the area.

Use large plastic bins, buckets or trash cans for storing and organizing smaller toys. You could separate these by child if you'd like, and put a name on each one so everyone has their own space. Alternatively, you could have one bin marked "pool" to use for pool toys, another marked "balls" to store all the various playing balls in, and so on.

Put pool safety equipMent in locations of their own though, and make them easily reachable. Arm floats and safety vests for smaller children for instance, can be hung on the wall right by the door, or put into an easily reachable container all their own.

Putting up shelves in your shed is another excellent way to help organize smaller items, or those toys reserved for adults or the larger children. Yard and lawn games and Supplies can go on these shelves for instance, such as golf tees and balls, ping pong equipMent, and badminton Supplies.

Nets, clubs and rackets can be organized easily by hanging them either on the wall, or from the ceiling in the corners.

Even though the economic situation is on the blink, Christmas is approaching and everyone is gearing up for doing commerce in kids toys for 2011. Considering the amount of retailers that'll be offering their own products, shopping for just about any toy will probably become harder.

Choosing The Right Kind Of Kids Toy

Selecting a toy for a kid is enTirely based on the age of the child. Each age group has its own complexity that has to be adDressed. The products have to be physically harmless and should not contain dangerous paints or chemicals. Products that stimulate the mind and provide unlimited fun are the best to go for.Children should be able to use them in various imaginative ways.

Some Popular Kids Toy Ideas

One of the most popular toy for this year is the Xbox Kinect. This is a virtual machine game which entices children of different age groups. This is a motion based and voice activated system. Players are able to interact with their friends and control the video at the same time. This makes it perfect for both young as well as old players.

Among other Computerized games, Fisher Price IxL is one of the most popular toys. This is good for somewhat younger children who are still learning their reading and number skills. It helps with writing, phonics, number skills, reading comprehension and more. However, thewhole process is done in a fun way, so it will surely appeal to both the kids as well as their parents.

LEGO Board Games is another popular choice. Although LEGO Games have been available for decades, this is different since it has been modernized with the use of Toy Story, Harry Potter and Star Wars. Different combinations from these will amaze any child and keep them'm ' engrossed for hours on end.

If your child is really advanced, then you could even choose the LEGO Mindstorms robotics kit. This allows them to put together their own programmable robot, and the different options are only really limited by your child's imagination (just make sure it's not too difficult for them to put together).

Why Play is Important For Children?

Why Play is Important For Children?

Important For Children

Kids Need to Be Safe: A Book for Children in Foster Care (Kids Are Important, 1)

“Kids are important… They need safe places to live, and safe places to play.” For some kids, this means living with foster parents. In simple words and full-color illustrations, this book explains why some kids move to foster homes, what foster parents do, and ways kids might feel during foster care. Children often believe that they are in foster care because they are “bad.” This book makes it clear that the troubles in their lives are not their fault; the message throughout is one of hope and support. Includes resources and information for parents, foster parents, social workers, counselors, and teachers.

Children like to play, they need to run, chase, ride, skip and jump. The more they play, the more they want to play again.

Why Play is Important For Children?

Play is important for Children because it practices their linguistic, cognitive and social skills and contributes to their general personality developMent. Children use their minds while playing, because they are thinking and acting as if they were another person. When they make such a transformation, they are taking a step forward abstract thinking in that they are freeing their thoughts from a focus on concrete objects. Play is also associated with creativity, especially the ability to be less literal and more flexible in one's thinking.

Vygotskian who was a famous Russian psychologist wrote, "To play a child always abovehis average age, above his daily behavior; in the play it is as though he were a head taller than himself ".

There are four types of play that reflect increasing levels of Children's social interaction and sophistication.

Solitary play is a play that take place alone, often with toys, and is independent of what other children are doing.

Parallel play involves children engaged in the same game or activity side by side but with very little interaction or common influence.

Associative play is much like parallel play but with increased levels of interaction in terms of sharing, turn-taking and general interest in what others are doing.

Cooperative play occurs when Children join and work together toachieve common goals, such as building a large castle with each child building a part of the structure.

Play have become quite indispensable to Children's life, However, in order to motivate Children to learn from the games they are playing, Adults have a responsibility to choose right playing method and age-appropriate games for the children. They are important eleMents to support the development of Children's play.

Stages of Play

Stages of Play

Stages of Play

Children go through different sTAGes of play as they grow and develop. Very young Infants only have the ability to attend to one object at a time. Once an object is out of their sight, it is quickly forgotten. Infants play by themselves because they are so busy exploring and discovering their new world. Every new object or situation that is introduced is a new learning experience for the newborn. This very first sTAGe of play is called "Solitary Play or independent play. They are fully engaged in gathering information and storing it for further use. This sTAGe of play lasts until some where around nine months. This is a very self centered time for the developing infant.

Stages of Play

Stages of Play

Stages of Play

Stages of Play

The second stage of play begins to loam in slightly older children usually by thetime a child is two years of age. "Parallel Play" is typical of this age child. This kind of play involves two or more children in the same room. They are interested in the same toys and both see the toy as belonging to them. Hence they maybe in the same area and play with similar toys, but they do not play together. They are playing along side each other simply because they are in the same area.

When children extend their knowledge and play experiences they move into "Associative Play." In this stage, three and four year old children begin playing together but it is a loosely organized fashion. The more mature child soon emerges as the leader or organizer in this stage of play. They see themselves as capable and able to tellothers what to do, the younger child seldom questions this authority that the more mature child has cultivated.

Finally the child expands into "Cooperatives Play" somewhere between the ages of four or five. Cooperative play takes place between two or more children as they grow and develop socially and emotionally. Cooperative play In children , exchange ideas about the game or the toy they are playing with at that moMent in time. Rules tend to still be very loosely constructed, but children know who is playing which role in their game. Play may last only a few minutes or it may stretch out for longer periods of time. Gradually they learn to respect the property rights of others. This is a clue that they are gaining social skills; at this same timethey begin to understand that they need permission to play with certain materials and certain people. They are also more willing to share their toys for the sake of the game. Communication about the play is the critical point of cooperative play.

It is important to note that children differ widely according to birth order within their own families. Boys and girls develop in different areas at different stages of their life, so there is never complete adherence to any of these exact ages. Not all children move through the stages at the same rate, because children who have more life experiences tend to emerge as leaders or organizers at younger ages. Confidence, shyness, and other personality traits factor into these stages of play.

Special Needs

One of the more common problems with mainstream toys is that they are meant to be used with two hands-often times children with cerebral palsy will have limited use of one side of the body or the use of only one hand.

Toys should be fun and children should have a feeling of accomplishMent or success when playing-not frustrated or reminded of what they cannot do.

Many of the commercial toys on the market can be adapted or used by children with cerebral palsy.

There are many toys that you can buy at any toy store or departMent store that are affordable and fun to use. Look for toys that can be used with one hand.
Musical instruMents are great for this-trumpet, harmonica, xylophoneor maracas. These also develop a sense of cause and effect with young children and help controlled moveMent with older children.

Magnetic type toys are all the rage and a big hit with kids of all ages-there are tons of magnetic toys available in many forms-magnetic jig saw puzzles, magnetic construction toys and magnetic marbles.

A simple ball is a lot of fun and great for developing coordination-get a neat ball that glows in the dark, flashes lights or play music when you roll it.

Toys or play that involve the senses will help with sensory integration development.
Sand and water are great for this. You can also fill a empty dish pan with uncooked rice-a great makeshift sand box for a rainy day.
A tipto avoid sand box mess: put the sandbox on cement blocks-will be at waist level and kids won't get sand in all their Clothes.

Toys that help with coordination and controlled movement are also a good choice.
Bowls filled with beads, beans or jelly beans are good for sorting, counting and grouping. Excellent for controlled movement.
Building blocks-simple wooden blocks, large dominoes for stacking also help with controlled movement. Also try empty milk cartons for stacking.

Play-doh is always a favorite-make your own play-doh and use Kool-Aid to not only color it but give it a fruity scent. Your child will be developing sensory awareness and visual motor integration skills as he plays.

Keep a box around filled with wheeled toys.Toy trucks and cars > of all sizes. These deal with non-verbal expression, problem solving and self-control.

Keep toys in site so your child can see what available-avoid opaque containers and lids. Baskets are great for this.

You can find many toys in local stores and make your own from even around your house without having to spend a lot of money on adaptive or special needs toys. Mainstream toys help with developmental skills such as cognitive awareness, controlled movement and coordination-and don't forget they are fun!

If you're a parent, you know that getting your finicky kid to eat is like trying to push a bolder up a mountain of molasses. It isn't easy. A kid's Menu, at best consists of about five or six things that he or she will eat. So what's a parent to do? Well, at a recent survey taken in a small US town, about 100 kids gave the answer to their five favorite Foods, not counting desserts. Coming in at number 5 was no surprise. Spaghetti and Meatballs was the overall number 5 choice. Kids seemed tolike this more out of the can than home made, however. And no fancy sauces like Marinara. Just plain out tomato or meat sauce was all they needed. Plus, no grated cheese on top. And not too many meatballs. Just 3 or 4 would be enough. Serving your kid a plate of spaghetti and meatballs would be more than enough to put a smile on his or her face.

In the number 4 slot was another Food that was no surprise. Hamburger on a bun was a sure winner. Again, nothing fancy as far as condiMents. No onions was big on the list of yucks. Kids absolutely hate onions and don't want them anywhere near their hamburgers. Just some ketchup is all they require. And the buns have to be hamburger buns. No regular hard rolls and certainly NO seeds. Also, no whole wheat buns orrolls.

The third most popular meal on the Menu was the hot dog. It was interesting to see that the hot dog was more popular than the burgers, but not by much. As for how they liked their hotdogs, that varied quite a bit. Some kids liked them just with mustard. Others preferred mustard and sauerkraut. And then there was that group of kids who enjoyed their hot dogs with ketchup. Nobody seemed to like relish or anything fancy on their hot dogs and NO cheese dogs. That was another big yuck.

Just missing the top spot number and coming in at number 2 was fried chicken. Parents, don't bother making this at home. Overwhelmingly, kids voted on Colonel Sanders Kentucky Fried Chicken and white meat only. And don't forget the biscuit that comes with it.They said without the biscuit it isn't as good. Makes you wonder if they loved the biscuit more than the chicken. Oh and the extra crispy gets a big thumbs up.

Finally, coming in at number 1 was macaroni and cheese. Again, don't try making this at home. This has to be, almost unanimously, Kraft Mac And Cheese. And of course no mac and cheese dish is complete without pouring ketchup all over it. By the time they are done with the ketchup you can just about see the mac and cheese.
